Siemon Mourns the Loss of Robert C. Carlson Jr.
September 11, 2018. Watertown, CT - Siemon, a leading global network infrastructure specialist, is deeply saddened by the death of Robert (Bob) Carlson, Jr., Vice President of Global Marketing and long-time multi-talented dedicated member of the Siemon team who during his tenure, touched the lives of many and was instrumental in shaping the strategic vision of the company and achieving substantial global growth.
Bob began working for Siemon in early 1992 as a research and development engineer after receiving his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of New Haven. Over the years, Bob held various positions in engineering where he was part of the team behind numerous IT infrastructure technology breakthroughs. Bob was awarded several patents for his innovations. He went on to leadership roles in marketing and sales, becoming Vice President of National Sales in 2001 and Vice President of Global Marketing in 2003.
As much as Bob’s career was defined by his creativity, drive, teamwork and dedication to Siemon, he was also well known throughout the industry and throughout the Connecticut community for his fun-loving nature. Embodying the “work hard, play hard, love hard” ethos, Bob was a rockstar at heart, both figuratively and literally. He was the founder and lead singer of the “River Mud” rock band, initially formed with an all-Siemon employee lineup to celebrate Siemon’s 100 year anniversary in 2003.
Even after being diagnosed in the spring of 2017 with pancreatic cancer, Bob continued to play with River Mud and other bands, staying “RockStar Strong” right until the end. Whether he was onstage or off, Bob was never one to shy away from the spotlight. He lived life with an infectious joy that always put him at the center of the action – having fun and pulling everyone else along for the ride of their lives.
In the words of Carl Siemon, “The flesh and blood of Bob has moved on, but our feelings and our many great memories of Bob will live on and will continue to be a source of strength and inspiration for his immediate family and for his extended Siemon family around the world.”
As is often the case with Siemon employees, Bob was a second-generation employee at Siemon – his father Robert Carlson, Sr. worked as a senior manufacturing engineer until his death in 2006. Carrying on the tradition, Bob’s son Robert S. Carlson began working for Siemon in May 2017 as a design engineer. In addition to his son Robert, Bob also leaves behind the love of his life, Lottie Beth (Abeling) Carlson, his daughter Olivia, who shares his passion for performance through dance, a daughter-in-law Shannon Carlson, his mother Rosemary Barron, sister Channea Barron, and many extended family members and friends around the world.
Bob Carlson will be deeply missed by his Siemon family.
